Stills from movies Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
New Delhi:
Bollywood might just have to begin counting down from Monday to Monday. In recent developments, the dreaded dead pool that is the bluest day of the week appears to have replaced Friday as the weekday of reckoning.
Last week, filmmaker Karan Johar tweeted this in reference to Baahubali, which he presents and is currently shattering records with over Rs 300 crores worldwide so far.
In the week that it spent unchallenged at the box office before Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan released, the Hindi-dubbed Baahubali's Monday exceeded its Friday by an entire crore.
Magic Monday repeated itself in week two:
Meanwhile, Salman Khan's eighth-in-row blockbuster also had a fantastic Monday. While box office receipts totalled up to a shade less than its Friday collection, Bajrangi Bhaijaan recorded Bollywood's biggest Monday after 2013's Krrish 3 which still rules with business of over Rs 29 crores on its first Monday.
Kangana Ranaut's Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which was 2015's first 100 crore film, also surpassed its Friday by a bit:
Piku, starring Deepika Padukone, didn't but had a decent Monday all the same with Rs 4.40 crores which was 85% of the Rs 5.32 crores it made on Friday, as did ABCD 2 with Rs 8.05 crores (Rs 14.30 crores of Friday) and Gabbar Is Back with Rs 6.75 crores (Rs 13.05 crores on Friday).
