I Am All For Song And Dance, Says Preeti Desai

I Am All For Song And Dance, Says Preeti Desai
New Delhi: From running a hair salon to becoming the first coloured winner of the Miss Great Britain pageant, Preeti Desai has travelled a long road to Bollywood.

And now the model wants to sing and dance her way to stardom. Preeti who is making her acting debut with Shor In The City says that she grew up watching Aamir and Shah Rukh serenade heroines around trees and is not averse to the 'masala' genre at all.

"I grew up watching films with a lot of song and dance in them so I am quite open to doing the same. My priority is a good script and a good director. If I get both in a project where I have to dance around trees, why not?," the debutante told PTI.

The dusky beauty won the Miss UK pageant in 2006 after the original winner Danniele Lloyd, was stripped of her crown amid allegations that the competition was fixed.

While Lloyd continued her fall from grace on the reality TV show 'Big Brother' where she infamously bullied actress Shilpa Shetty, Preeti went on to become a sought after name in the modelling circuit.

And her experience came in handy for her acting debut in 'Shor..' where she plays Shyamili, a model who introduces Heroes star Senthil Ramamurthy to the city of Mumbai.

The American actor and the 29-year-old share a love scene in the film, but contrary to the buzz it is rather "tame", says Preeti.

"As far as love scenes go, this is a really tame one. By the time me and Senthil were shooting for it, we had become really comfortable with each other and so it was not very difficult," said Preeti.

She herself had first come to Mumbai two years ago on a modelling assignment and the city has now become her second home.

"Even if you have lived in Mumbai all your life, you will still see new things which shock and surprise you everyday. I feel so good when I am showing my friends from the UK around in Mumbai, because it is an amazing city," said the model-actress.

But her India stint has not been free of controversies. From a reported engagement to actor Abhay Deol and recently leaked topless photographs, Preeti has been in news, for both good and bad reasons.

"I have been misquoted a lot in the media about these things and I have decided that the best option is not to comment at all," she said when asked about allegations that the leaked photographs are part of the film's publicity drive.

Shor in the City starring Preeti, Senthil Ramamurthy, Tusshar Kapoor, Nikhil Dwivedi, Radhika Apte and directed by duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, releases on April 29.
