I Was Unprepared For This: Jessie J On The Price Of Fame

The British firecracker, who recently performed a starstudded beach gig at the Cannes Film Festival, says that shehas been caught unawares by her own global success and"normal" life is just a memory of the past now.

"You can never prepare for what happens. Everythingthat kind of was normal to me, has been taken out from undermy feet. I used to love just walking down the street and inthe UK I can't do that anymore. And just being invisible isactually sometimes the best thing in the world," the younghitmaker told PTI in an interview.

The 23-year-old who was born Jessica Cornish, brokeinto the scene with a bang with her debut, the expletive lacedDo It Like a Dude, which topped the charts in the UK.

She went global with her second single Price Tag andwas introduced stateside with a performance on the cult hitshow Saturday Night Live hosted by Hangover's ZachGalifianakis.

Though she is grateful for the success, Jessie is alsoexperiencing the down side of the same.

"I love my job, it's just about adjusting andembracing it and getting used to it. I have a lot of peoplefollow me, taking pictures, writing things about me and askingme personal stuff. And it's crazy, because for me it's allabout the music. I'm just young, and I'm trying to enjoy itand make sure I don't take it for granted," said the singer.

Though her rise can best be described as 'mercurial',Jessie has been working at it for more than six years now.

She built a fan base like most newcomers, byuploading videos of herself singing on YouTube. The clips,amassed millions of hits and she then moved to Los Angeleswhere she penned the platinum-selling Party in the USA forMiley Cyrus.

And it is her struggling days that gave her thematerial for her first album Who You Are, a hybrid of pop,R&B and good old rock.

"I describe my music as very emotional and honest. Itcomes from my life. It is a representation of what I've seenin the last 6 years in life. My album reflects the need to betrue to who you are and the kind of difficulties you gothrough in life," she said.

Jessie J is currently preparing for a world tour andwhen asked if India will be one of the pit-stops, she said,"I will make an announcement if I have plans on the same."
