International Film Festival ofIndia (IFFI) 2010, scheduled to begin in Goa, will have aspecial retrospective on French filmmaker Jean Becker.Officials of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG),co-host for the festival, said that a total of four films willbe screened as a part of the retrospective in honour of thelegendary filmmaker.
The retrospective would be opened with his 1983 madeFrench film titled One Deadly Summer.
The film, made after he took a break of 20 years, hadwon several awards including Cesar Award in France for BestActress, Supporting Actress, Editing and Best Writing.Becker's other films including Elisa (1995),Conversation with My Gardener (2007) and Love Me No More(2008), will also be screened during the beginning of thefestival on November 22.
In 1961, Becker made his first film Un Nomm LaRocca (A Man Named Rocca) followed by three films includingTender Voyou (Tender Scoundrel) (1966), that were criticallyand commercially successful.
After completing the episodes of the hit televisionseries Les Saintes Cherries (1965-1970), Becker took a breakfrom filmmaking for nearly 20 years. He returned in 1983 withL't Meurtrier (One Deadly Summer).
The film was a huge success and was nominated for thePalme d'Or at the Festival de Cannes and also got four Caesars(1984).
