Mumbai:
Actor Imran Khan has filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court against the Maharashtra Government's decision to make 25 the legal drinking age.
Earlier this year, the Maharashtra Cabinet had passed a de-addiction policy that included the higher drinking age.
Speaking to reporters along with his lawyer Amit Naik at the Bombay High Court, the actor said that the youth of the country are responsible and if they can vote, they can most certainly drink responsibly:
"Alcohol is dangerous to your health. It will damage your health. We know it and we have seen it in our personal life but in India it is legal and as long as you are legal and adult you should have freedom of choice," the actor said.
Many questioned Imran's timing to speak out against the drinking age prior to the release of his urban-youth centered flick, Delhi Belly.
"When I promote my film I have been very clear about not speaking about this PIL on the same platform," the actor said today.
The actor extended freedom of choice saying he supports gay and lesbian relationships. "If you are in a relationship and you are happy and it's not hurting anybody else, you have the freedom of choice," he said.
