New Delhi: I clearly remember my first meeting with Bawa (Sanjit) as an impressionable 10-year-old at his house in Bengali market, Delhi. Our mothers were good friends. His opening line "What's up, Dude?" has stuck with me since then. At that time, I thought he was a bit nutty, but funny.
Our interactions continued with his sister Mandira and him over at our house or we would visit them. Of course, his house was always bustling with friends, mostly from his school or neighbourhood.
Sanjit lived with his mother, Mohini Aunty to me, and sister Mandira; he adored her and was equally protective of both. Mohini Aunty often expressed her concern for his future given his passion for acting, but with his affable ways, he got away with cold murder. His "Pyaar ki jhappi", frequently dispensed, was the best way of making one feel loved.
From his popular serial Sanjivani and others like Jaane Kya Baat Hui, Thodi Si Zameen, Kasauti Zindagi Ki, he achieved success. I briefly spoke today to his co-stars including Jennifer Winget, Karan Bohra and Karan Singh Grover - they are all in shock and spoke of his compassion and the help he gave to those he worked with. I will always remember him for 'living la vida loca'. RIP Sanjit...you are dearly missed.
