Sabyasachi Mukherjee, designer to the stars, flagged off the latest edition of Lakme Fashion Week on March 17 in Mumbai and a front row of celebrity fans dressed in the designer's creations competed with the spectacle on the catwalk.
A small army of actresses dressed by Sabyasachi made for very glamorous off-ramp viewing. Chief among the famous faces was Happy New Year star Deepika Padukone who looked exactly right in a floral maxidress. Sridevi and Kajol picked ethnic looks from his collection - Sridevi in a diaphanous sari and an elaborate blouse, Kajol in the pales of pinks strewn with mint flowers.
Rani Mukerji, who almost exclusively wears Sabysachi, wore spectacles with her sari - a look seen on the designer's catwalk some seasons ago. Actress Kalki Koechlin, who was Deepika's neighbor in the front row, accessorized her outfit with a matching head-band. Yaariyan director Divya Khosla wore a maxidress.
A scattering of attendees didn't wear Sabyasachi, notably actress Neha Dhupia who showed up wearing an Abraham and Thakore dress. Director Kiran Rao wore a Givenchy sweatshirt and black leggings, and celebrity hair stylist Adhuna Bhabani was simply dressed in black and white.
Columnist Shobhaa De and filmmaker Aishwaryaa R Dhanush wore saris. Vogue India fashion director Anaita Shroff Adajania wore a beige asymmetrical outfit.
Sabyasachi posed for pictures with his famous guests.
Stranded in a sea of female celebrities were actor Irrfan Khan and Adhuna's husband Farhan Akhtar.
