A still from the trailer of Titli
Just when one thought the confluence of commercial and art-house cinema in Bollywood had peaked, came the trailer of the movie Titli. From the house of Yash Raj Films, in collaboration with Dibakar Banerjee Productions, this unconventional movie set in the dystopian badlands of Delhi, was India's official entry to the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, which was held in May 2014.
The film revolves around the youngest member of a three-member gang of car-jackers, named Titli, and how he plots a desperate bid to escape the 'family' business, only to be thwarted at every stage by his brothers who try marrying him off to ensure he does not escape the rut.
Played by actor Shashank Arora, Titli, in spite of all the odds, finds an unlikely ally in his wife, who is entrenched in her own dysfunctional dreams and reality but plays along when it comes to plot an escape for the both of them. But does escape equal freedom, is one of the most pertinent question that the film asks.
Set to release by the end of this year, this movie is directed by Kanu Behl and also stars actors Ranvir Shorey, Amit Sial and Shivani Raghuvanshi.
