- Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) will pay tribute to the works of veteran actor A.K. Hangal, who started his acting journey with theatre, at a ceremony at the Prithvi Theatre on Monday (August 27).
- Mr Hangal, who was involved with IPTA along with other veterans including Balraj Sahni and Kaifi Azmi, died in Mumbai on Sunday (Auguat 26) following a prolonged illness. He was 97.
- "Tomorrow August 27 between 4-5 p.m., ceremony for A K Hangal Saheb at Prithvi Theatre, Juhu. All are welcome. Please spread the word. Organised by IPTA," veteran actress Shabana Azmi tweeted.
- Mr Hangal's love towards theatre started during his childhood days in Peshawar, now in Pakistan. He grew up to be a tailor, but quenched his thirst for acting through theatre.
- Post partition, he is said to have moved to Mumbai in 1949 and stepped into the Hindi film industry in 1966-67. His initial films included Teesri Kasam and Shagird.
