New Delhi: Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar's Dhadak was launched on Wednesday. The film was reported to be a remake of National Award-winning Marathi film
Sairat, starring Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar. Director
Shashank Khaitan, who is directing Dhadak says that the basic plot and story of the film is same as
Sairat, but some variations have been included in the Hindi version, reports news agency PTI.
Sairat, directed by Nagraj Manjule, was a love story between an upper-caste girl Archana (Rinku) and a fisherman's son Prashant (Akash). "The basic premise is of differences in caste, honour killing and what it means to survive in that world and I feel that is the conflict that is alive all across India, you will hear stories like that. So in that sense, the basic premise (of
Dhadak and
Sairat) is same. But there are variations," Shashank told PTI.
"My story is based on another set up... It is (set) in Rajasthan. It comes with its own challenges, conflicts and style of a love story," he further added.
Three posters of
Dhadak, featuring Janhvi and Ishaan, were released by Karan Johar last evening. His Dharma Productions is backing the film. "It wasn't tough to get the poster look for the film as we were sticking to the story that we have written and the world that we have created. Even the idea of the poster was to remain as honest as possible to the film that we want to make. We are adapting
Sairat into the world that we want to. The focus entirely was to present them (Janhvi and Ishaan) as the characters of the film," Shashank told PTI.
Sairat released in 2016 and is the first Marathi film to gross over Rs 100 crore. It is reportedly being remade in other languages like Kannada, Telugu, Punjabi , Malayalam and Tamil.
Dhadak is Janhvi Kapoor's debut Hindi film. Janhvi is the elder daughter of actress Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor. Ishaan is Shahid Kapoor's brother. He made his acting debut with Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's film
Beyond The Clouds.
Dhadak is scheduled to hit the screens on July 6, 2018.
