An open letter, which first appeared on newsable.asianetnews.tv after the trailer of Udta Punjab released on April 16, dismisses the actress' character as "nothing but a concoction of stereotypes." "Do you really think all Biharis are poor and look like this?," asked the writer of the letter, self-described as a 'bonafide Bihari girl.'
Opinions may differ on Alia's 'bonafides' in the film but the trailer of Udta Punjab and its cast - Alia, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh - has been warmly welcomed by Bollywood colleagues.
