Deepika, who is the daughter of former badminton champion Prakash Padukone, made her acting debut in 2006 as a pivotal character in the Kannada film Aishwarya. She then portrayed a double-role in her first Bollywood release Om Shanti Om, which helped her win a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
2012 box office hit Cocktail marked a turning point in her career. Her other films include Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Happy New Year. She was also lauded for her performances in the tragic romances Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
