Mumbai: Hema Malini decided to release daughter Esha Deol's comeback film Tell Me O Kkhudda against Ajay Devgn-starrer Singham.
Now that Pankaj Kapoor's Mausam is out of the release race for July 22, Hema Malini has decided to step in with her daughter Esha Deol's comeback vehicle.
Earlier the veteran actress had planned to release her film as late as September, rather than risk competition from other biggies.
The decision to pre-pone the release was taken on Saturday at a meeting between Hema Malini and her co-producers. It was felt that there was ample scope for a family drama to take on Rohit Shetty's hardcore action film.
A source said, "Initially, Hemaji felt it would be too risky for her daughter to have her film pitched against Singham. But after watching the final product her confidence soared.
The theatres are now being worked out, and that's a problem because the Singham producers have booked every possible theatre. This is why Mausam makers decided to move forward, and not because Pankaj Kapoor needed more time for post-production."
When contacted Hema was cautious in revealing her new release date. "We are trying to work our way into July 22. The other film (Singham) is completely different from ours. After that Ramzan starts and then for Eid there are other big films lined up. So we would have to wait for September if we don't release on July 22," she said.
