New Delhi: Ittefaq, starring Sonakshi Sinha, Sidharth Malhotra and Akshaye Khanna, has put up a great show at the theatres. The film had a slow start at the box office on the opening day but later picked momentum on its first weekend. Ittefaq has shown 'steady' growth even on weekdays and has finally touched the 20 crore mark. The film has managed to make Rs. 20.30 crore so far. Trade analayst Taran Adarsh tweeted and wrote: "Ittefaq is STEADY on weekdays... Fri 4.05 cr, Sat 5.50 cr, Sun 6.50 cr, Mon 2.25 cr, Tue 2 cr. Total: 20.30 cr. India biz." The original Ittefaq featured Rajesh Khanna in the lead role and it released in 1969.
Here's what Taran Adarsh tweeted:
Ittefaq is jointly produced by Shah Rukh khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and BR Studios - the makers of the original film. Ittefaq is directed by Abhay Chopra, grandson of BR Chopra. Of the film, Karan Johar earlier told news agency PTI, "I have seen it three to four times and I am a big fan of it. I also saw this one (the remake) while the editing was going on... It is a true adaptation, it is not a straight copy. It is different from the original."
In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 2.5 stars out of 5. "It is a thriller that remains watchable without being a consistently pulsating, heart-pounding experience. Watch Ittefaq because the film reveals a great deal about how Bollywood filmmaking has changed over the past five decades. If that isn't a big enough draw, watch it for nonpareil Akshaye Khanna. He overshadows everyone - and everything - in Ittefaq.
Ittefaq released along with Chris Hemsworth's Thor: Ragnarok, which has made Rs 40 crore so far.
