Mumbai:
Before landing the lead role in Qubool Hai, actress Surbhi Jyoti had never watched any daily soap. She says it was sheer luck that she got caught in the TV show mania.
"I have never seen daily soaps as I was always more attracted to reality shows, its thrills and adventures. It is sheer luck that I got a chance to be part of this show," Surbhi told IANS.
"This show is completely different from others. It has a Muslim backdrop, but the characters are quite modern in their outlook. The treatment of the story is completely different from others, which attracted me the most to the show. Moreover, we have an all-young cast in the show, so shooting for it is double the fun," she added.
The show, aired on Zee TV, is a family drama with hints of a love story.
Surbhi, 23, hails from Jalandhar, Punjab and is an MA in English. She has been actively involved in theatre too, and was earlier part of the Punjabi serial Kach Diya Wanga, and has also done a few Punjabi films.
In Qubool Hai, which is her debut Hindi show, Surbhi is cast opposite TV heartthrob Karan Singh Grover, who plays the lead role of Asad in the show. Due to her ignorance of daily soaps, she didn't know at first that he is such a well known face on the small screen.
"I had seen Karan as a contestant on Fear Factor but, as I said, I wasn't too interested in watching daily shows, I didn't know that he is so popular among people and has such as huge fan following. But despite the popularity he is very down-to-earth," said Surbhi.
"He is completely different from the character he plays on Qubool Hai and is a very fun-loving guy," she added.
Surbhi reveals she initially found it tough to get in tune with the busy and fast-paced lifestyle of Mumbai, but she has now adapted to it.
"Jalandhar is a very calm place and Mumbai is always moving fast. It was initially difficult for me to adjust into the hectic lifestyle, but I have gradually got used to it," she said.
