Jagjit Singh's demise mourned by overseas Indian fans
London: Jagjit Singh had enthralled audiences in several countries outside India and tributes poured in from overseas Indians on his passing away today.

Lord Swraj Paul, a fan of the ghazal maestro, who had inaugurated a Jagjit Singh concert here, recalled how ghazal lovers from India as well as Pakistan formed packed audiences whenever he performed.

"He was matchless, a master of his art. His popularity transcended geographic and political boundaries. His sudden death is a huge loss to the world of music," Lord Paul said.

Fans recalled superlative live performances of Jagjit and his wife Chitra at the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley as well as Birmingham. Recordings of these concerts are hugely popular with ghazal lovers across Europe.

Jagjit Singh, 70, died today in Mumbai, a fortnight after he suffered brain haemorrhage.
