Jaya Bachchan's role in Guddi (left) was the inspiration behind Sonam's role in Raanjhanaa
Mumbai:
"I had already seen Guddi but I saw it again before shooting for the film. I was inspired by Jaya Bachchanji in Guddi for the film," Sonam told reporters on Friday at the unveiling of director Anand L Rai's Raanjhanaa music here.
Shooting for Raanjhaana was like actualising unfulfilled dreams for the 27-year-old who studied in a "very conservative school" in real life. "I was not allowed to wear short skirts, but with the film I enjoyed a lot. I wore short skirts, had fun with boys and did everything that I couldn't do in my school days," she added.
The film's lead actor Dhanush, who was also at the event, has dubbed himself for his debut Hindi movie.
He said: "I give credit to the director of the film, Anand. He prepared me to play the Banarasi guy. I have dubbed myself for the film. It's a wonderful feeling."
Raanjhaana is slated for a June 21 release.
