Mumbai: Actor Irrfan Khan said that the money spent on a film's promotion and marketing is a burden.

Irrfan will next be seen in Sanjay Gupta's Jazbaa, co-starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. (Also Read: Aishwarya Was Always Here, Says Irrfan Khan on Jazbaa Co-Star's 'Comeback')

"This (promotion) is a burden on filmmaking. We should have a limit on it and reduce the amount. Sometimes the ratio is 1:1. I think this is a waste of money," Irrfan told IANS.

"The film suffers sometimes because of the large money spent on promotions. The burden of promotions inevitably comes on the film. And the directors and actors are judged by the business which the film is doing," Irrfan added.

Irrfan also said that endorsements should be limited.

"Audience decides what to watch or not from the trailer. Besides that all what we are doing is filling the space. I don't know how many people come to watch a film only because of promotions. Just an awareness and trailer - that's enough for a film to get a fair audience," said Irrfan.

Jazbaa is scheduled to release on October 9.
