New Delhi:
It's with a litany of woes that adult film actress Sunny Leone makes her big Bollywood debut today. Jism 2, directed by Pooja Bhatt and co-starring actors Arunoday Singh and Randeep Hooda, has been the subject of protests and controversies even before it released:
1. Yesterday, the mayor and municipal commissioner of Mumbai confirmed that this poster of the film had been removed from buses, bus depots and electric poles in the city. The poster, showing a reclining nude female figure covered by a thin sheet of fabric, was deemed objectionable by an NCP corporator who filed a letter of complaint.
2. It also appears the poster may not be original. It looks very similar to this poster for a Goan fashion by designer Felix Bendish dating from 2010. And it may not be Sunny Leone at all on the Jism 2 poster, but model turned item girl Nathalia Kaur.
3. Jism 2's title track has also been accused of being copied from a Turkish song, a charge that the film's music director Arko Pravo Mukherjee denies.
4. In Amritsar, local activists held a demonstration against the film. They burnt effigies of Sunny and director Pooja Bhatt.
5. And a local resident has asked the Allahabad High Court to issue a stay order against the film, objecting to Sunny's presence in it.
