Los Angeles:
Singer John Mayer has shut down his Twitter account despite amassing 3.7 million followers on the popular micro-blogging site.
A spokesman for the 32-year-old said that the musician took the decision to close down his page because his Battle Studies tour has now come to an end, MTV News reported.
Mayer, who released his latest album Battle Studies in November last year, has been an avid user of Twitter in the past year, posting regular accounts of his everyday life.
The Gravity singer caused controversy in February, after using what is considered to be a racist term during an interview for Playboy magazine.
Afterwards he took to Twitter to apologise to fans, saying, "'Re: using the 'N word' in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged".
