Los Angeles: Johnny Depp opened up about the dog fiasco in Australia during an appearance on a TV show, reported Ace Showbiz .

The Pirates of the Caribbean star clearly denied that he smuggled dogs into the country.

"We were under the impression that we had all the paperwork done with the dogs, we were there with the dogs in front of everybody," the 52-year-old actor explained, before cracking a joke, "There might have been other things smuggled."

Jimmy Kimmel of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show then played a clip from Australian Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce's television address about the actor's dogs earlier this year.

Mr Barnaby threatened to euthanize the pets if they weren't flown back to the US.

The politician made headlines when he threatened to have the dogs euthanized because Mr Depp had his pets flown in on a private plane in May without documentation.

"What kind of a maniac is this," the host said of Mr Barnaby, to which the Alice in Wonderland actor replied, "Maybe he's just doing his job."

The actor added, "This sort of like, weird, sweaty gut man, who decided that you know, two, five or six-inch teacup Yorkshire terriers would harm the country in some way, he's got a point. Especially when you consider that Australia has the most poisonous creatures on Earth." (Also Read: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard to 'Avoid' Australia After Dog Fiasco)
