Johnny Depp, Paradis call it quits?

Johnny Depp, Paradis call it quits?
New York: Actor Johnny Depp has reportedly split from his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis. Rumours of trouble have been around for the last month or so, but received a fillip with celebrity magazine People's story that the Pirates of the Caribbean star and his longtime love are "leading separate lives".

Depp began dating French singer Paradis in 1998, while shooting The Ninth Gate. Known to be famously private, Vanessa Paradis, told the Daily Mail in 2010, that the couple had tamed each other. Both once known for their rebellious behaviour, she denies reining the actor in. "I didn't tame him - we tamed each other," she said.

Though their relationship began in 1988, she actually met Depp four years earlier, when he was dating supermodel Kate Moss.

Three months after they got together, she became pregnant with their daughter Lily-Rose, now 12. Their son Jack, now nine, was born three years later.

There were rumours of a split last year as well when photographs surfaced of Depp kissing his publicist Robin Baum. At the time Paradis's representative dismissed the rumours and their split as a "bunch of lies". Paradis was also uncomfortable with Depp shooting with Angelina Jolie for The Tourist with tabloid reports claiming that she was worried that Jolie wanted more than friendship with Depp.

According to People.com, Depp's huge success caused tension in the relationship and the couple is said to be living separately. "Vanessa went seven years between albums, and several years between film projects, while he became Captain Jack Sparrow (from Pirates of the Caribbean)," said a source.

The split from Paradis is apparently the reason why Depp skipped the Globes red carpet last Sunday. His solo appearance at the Globes caps a year of appearances without Paradis; they were last seen posing together in 2010.

Depp did show on the Globes stage as the first presenter. He appeared distracted and at a loss for words when acerbic host Ricky Gervais ribbed him again on The Tourist, his film with Angelina Jolie.

Depp's reported split has fans posting sympathetic and quirky messages on Twitter, with many female fans offering themselves as a replacement for Paradis.

Though not married to Paradis, Radar Online reports that Depp is apparently seeking legal help to discuss how to get out of the relationship. Being together for long and having two kids has not made the situation easy.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Paradis stepped out solo in Paris yesterday. She looked glum, shopping at a music and book store.
