Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie was abandoned in her childhood by her mother Marcheline Bertrand after she split from her father Jon Voight, claims a new unauthorised tell-all.
Andrew Morton's book 'Angelina: An Unauthorized Biography' claims that the 'Salt' star's teenage years and young adulthood were marred by erratic behavior like drug-use, self-cutting and a volatile love life, reported Us magazine online.
And it all began with her parent's separation in the actress' infancy. According to former babysitter Krisann Morel, Bertrand virtually abandoned her baby daughter after a painful 1976 split from Voight.
Morel claims that, for two years, Bertrand sequestered Jolie in a separate apartment in her building, where the young girl was cared for by a revolving staff.
The 35-year-old actress has recently declared her devotion to her mother who passed away in January 2007 of cancer. But Morton writes that Jolie was permanently scarred by this early abandonment, leading her to self-destructive acts and a "come here, now go away" personality.
