New Delhi:
Judwaa 2, starring Varun Dhawan, Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez, had a 'terrific' day one, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The David Dhawan-directed film, which is a remake of Salman Khan's 1997 blockbuster Judwaa, collected Rs 16.10 crore on its opening day, which is the fourth highest in this year, according to Mr Adarsh. S S Rajamouli's Baahubali 2, Salman Khan's Tubelight and Shah Rukh Khan's Raees are the top three films to record the highest opening day collection. "#Judwaa2 crosses ₹ 16 cr on Day 1... Fri ₹ 16.10 cr. India biz... EXCELLENT!" Mr Adarsh tweeted.See trade analyst Taran Adarsh's tweets here:
Salman Khan has a cameo in Judwaa 2. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Upasana Singh, Rajpal Yadav, Pavan Malhotra, Ali Asgar and Vivan Bhatena in pivotal roles.
Judwaa 2 received a negative response from the film critics but it has been hailed by Bollywood celebrities like Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Anupam Kher. "@Varun_dvn sinks his teeth into Prem and Raja and completely nails this dhamaal entertainer," tweeted KJo while Alia Bhatt reviewed the film as 'fun, entertaining, adorable and aptly nostalgic.'
In his review for NDTV, film critic Raja Sen wrote, "Varun Dhawan curbs his natural spontaneity to try and ape Salman Khan. Bad move."
"The new film is almost exactly like the old one - it is as if they used the same script - but the unpredictable off-the-wall bounciness of the original is now executed by template. As Prem, the nerd, Dhawan isn't half bad as he chastises his twin for thrusting his pelvis, but as the ruffian Raja, doing said thrusts, he seems significantly out of his depth. That sleaziness came so much easier to Salman. Perhaps because he wasn't copying anyone," wrote Mr Sen.
Judwaa 2 opened across 4,000 screens worldwide.
