Jury deliberates in Hudson family killings

Jury deliberates in Hudson family killings
New Delhi: The jury deciding the verdict of Jennifer Hudson's family's murder trial, will continue deliberating the decision today.

Prosecutors spent more than two hours on Wednesday (May 9, 2012) urging the jury to consider the huge amount of evidence for suspect William Balfour's motive and to try dispelling the notion that it requires overwhelming forensic evidence to convict him.

The jury of six women and six men reflected for many hours into last night before being sequestered at a local hotel, the Chicago Tribune reports.

William Balfour is accused of fatally shooting Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, her brother Jason Hudson, 29, and her seven-year-old nephew Julian King in October 2008.

Assistant State's Attorney Jennifer Bagby said in a closing statement: "Just because something isn't there, doesn't mean that he wasn't there."

Meanwhile the defense attorney Amy Thompson insisted: "They were trying to convict a pre-chosen defendant."

Jennifer Hudson is said to have wept and buried her face in her fiancé's shoulder as prosecutors begged jurors to use their common sense and reject theories that the killings were related to Jason Hudson's cocaine business, which he ran out of the family's Englewood home.
