Amitabh Bachchan, grand old man of Bollywood, is embracing the brave new world of social networking with open arms. Mr Bachchan now has a Facebook account, and he already has nearly 8 lakh likes.
Mr Bachchan broke the news late last night on, where else?, Twitter:
T 842 - Ok .. some advance news .. Looks like I shall be on FaceBook from tomorrow ... looks like .. wait for confirmation !!
And just a few hours later he tweeted:
T 843 - YIPPEE !! Am on FaceBook !! My ID : http://FaceBook.com/AmitabhBachchan . ANNDDD !! Its close to 8 lakhs in half an hour !! Keep it coming, Baby !
Within an hour of joining the social networking site, Mr Bachchan had over 7,80,000 likes. And he's thrown himself headlong into the deep end of Facebook, posting a video of him at home in Jalsa speaking about how excited he is to be on Facebook, calling it a "welcome device."
Mr Bachchan is no stranger to social Cyberia. He took to Twitter in a big way, using the micro-blogging site to announce his daughter-in-law Aishwarya's pregnancy and to let the world know his little granddaughter was called Aaradhya. He has 3,299,786 followers on Twitter currently. Or, as he puts it:
T 842 - Just a hop skip away from 3.3 million followers .. !!! Thank you all without you it would never have been possible !!
In contrast, other early celebrity Twitter enthusiasts Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra trail him by over 50,000 followers. Big B also has a current tweet count of 15,199. Priyanka has 6,734 and SRK is way behind at 3,433.
And just in case you think Mr Bachchan is ahead in the tweet stakes because he has more time than his fellow Tweet-izens, think again. He signed off last night saying:
T 842 - Ok.. that's enough for tonight .. got to do the http://tumblr.com and an early morning shoot ... GN !!
