New Delhi: Teen pop star Justin Bieber stunned many of his fans on Christmas day by tweeting that he is retiring.

The 19-year-old singer tweeted on Tuesday, "My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring." The announcement sent social media into a spin.

Before that news could sink in, Bieber followed it up with another tweet assuring his fans that he would "never leave them."

"The media talks a lot about me.They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle," he tweeted.

He wound up his late night tweeting with this comment: "Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ. Merry Christmas I'm here forever."

This is not the first time that Justin Bieber has spoken of his retirement. Last week, in an interview to a radio channel, Bieber had revealed that he was planning to take a break from his music career as he wanted his talent to "mature". He had said that he would take a long break after the release of his new album Journals.

Bieber has nearly 48 million followers on Twitter and more than 60 million fans on Facebook.
