Mumbai: Filmmaker Kabir Khan said that the Shyam Benegal committee, which has been formed to revamp the censor board, is a relief for the film industry.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has been at the centre of flak for some time now, owing to its decision of cutting scenes in films like NH10 and SPECTRE.
The panel, which will submit its report in two months, also includes filmmakers Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Piyush Pandey, along with film critic Bhawana Somaaya. National Film Development Council managing director Nina Lath Gupta and joint secretary (films) Sanjay Murthy will also be a part of the committee.
"It's a relief. He (Shyam Benegal) is one of the most respected people we have in the industry. If he oversees the censor board, then it's a great thing," said Kabir. (Also Read: Farhan Akhtar Says Censor Board Hasn't 'Behaved Consistently' in the Past)
