Chennai: Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan said that the strength of his forthcoming Tamil thriller Papanasam, which is the remake of Malayalam hit Drishyam, lies in its script because it is tried-and-tested and has proven successful.

"It's a script that has been tried-and-tested in several languages and has successfully worked every single time. This proves the strength of Papanasam lies in its script," Haasan told IANS.

He also added that it's a film where even the smallest of the character is crucial from the story's perspective.

Mr Haasan plays the role of a cable TV operator in the film, which is directed Jeethu Joseph, who also made the original film starring Mohan Babu.

Set against the backdrop of Thirunelveli, the characters in the film speak in Nellai accent.

"Writers Jeyamohan and Suka need to be credited for helping us with the accent. Their knowledge about the place and language was quite helpful to us. Even if a word was slightly mispronounced, they'd stop us immediately," he said.

Mr Haasan also heaped praise on director the director, who despite working on the original, was open to suggestions in the remake.

Actress Gauthami will make a comeback after a long gap as Mr Haasan's onscreen wife in the movie, which has already been remade in Telugu and Kannada, while the Hindi version, starring Ajay Devgn is due for release.

Papanasam is scheduled to hit the screens on July 3.
