A still from the film Kanche.
Chennai:
Filmmaker Krish Jagarlamudi, who is delighted with the National Film Award honour for his Telugu period war drama Kanche, feels the movie truly deserved it, but he didn't expect the accolade.
"It feels really good, and I'm happy Kanche won the award. I never expected it, but it truly deserved it," a jubilant Krish told IANS.
Set against the backdrop of the World War II, the film is about regional fences that divide people.
"This is the most extraordinary film I've made so far. This award is special because until the film released, nearly 70 per cent of the audience didn't know what really happened to Indian soldiers in the Second World War, and we showed all of that on a micro and macro level and it paid off," he said. Krish feels Kanche deserved the honour because it wasn't an easy film to make.
"We worked really hard on the film. This is a nice end to Kanche chapter," he added.
The film starred Varun Tej and Pragya Jaiswal in the lead roles. Varun says he is 'humbled' to be a part of the film and thanked Krish for it. He tweeted:
