Kareena Kapoor: I'm a director's actor

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor says she did not prepare much for her role in upcoming political thriller Satyagraha and left it entirely in the hands of director Prakash Jha.

Kareena essays the role of a journalist named Yashin and says her character plays a key part in bringing together the entire movement shown in the film.

"There was not too much preparation because I am a director's actor, and I left everything to Prakashji. He guided me through the whole role, but I think there are influences of some journalists. Basically, very work focussed and no time for love... That's basically Yasmin's character," she said.

"Yasmin kind of puts together the whole revolution, brings together the entire movement that we have (shown) in the film. It's strong, it's intense and I am happy that Prakashji thought of me for this role," the 32-year-old added from London via a video chat.

The actress says the role helped her understand the work pressures of a reporter.

"Our film shows that when she (the reporter) is on field and during the time of the revolution, she stays true to her work no matter what the situation is. I understand that the media has to do their job, their job is to report and have constant stories to report all the time, no matter where and how," said Kareena.

The first look of Satyagraha has been launched globally.

While Amitabh Bachchan, Manoj Bajpayee, Amrita Rao and director Prakash Jha launched it in India, Kareena Kapoor and Ajay Devgn joined from London via video chat and the duo launched the movie's promo there.

The film hits theatres on Aug 23.
