London:
Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet says she is grateful to not have had a wealthy childhoodbecause it made her appreciate everything a lot more.
The Reader star says she led a "country bumpkin" life growing up, as her father was unable to work following a boating accident, but insists she never felt deprived, reported Contactmusic.
"All I can recall is a happy atmosphere despite the fact money was so tight. We never led a wealthy lifestyle and I am grateful for that. We enjoyed living a kind of country bumpkin way of life. We loved camping and never had a package holiday or went to a hotel. You just appreciate everything so muchmore. I am not cynical about anything," Winslet said.
The 36-year-old admits her upbringing has made her down-to-earth and she refuses to get caught up in the trappings of fame.
"None of our family have any time for actors' nonsense - my mother taught me the importance of getting on in life without complaints. She was also never afraid of hard work," Winslet added.
