Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha and the Perils of Being a Hit Heroine

Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha and the Perils of Being a Hit Heroine

Katrina and Sonakshi's recent choice of roles failed to live upto their credibility

Bollywood stars certainly thrive on performance pressure but it's an altogether different pressure that actress Katrina Kaif went through this awards season. A coy, half-hearted attempt to groove to Chikni Chameli at the recent Umang Police Show in Mumbai hardly counts. So where does this leave Katrina at the moment? Well, somewhat stranded with her next release Phantom over three months away. It's a rocky professional territory for an actor who's still waiting for her next lifetime role to materialise. It seems Katrina is trying to cut the criticism to the chase as well. She recently said she's never claimed to be the best actor in Bollywood.

But while Katrina may be feeling like a shadow of herself on the professional front, she has at least got a co-star who knows exactly how that feels. Actor Saif Ali Khan has little more than a ghost of a chance to redeem himself after back to back disasters Bullett Raja, Humshakals and Happy Ending, and to add to it, Kareena Kapoor's not exactly putting the better into half. Yes, Kareena may have Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Udta Punjab on hand but both are hardly Kareena-centric projects.

She may have claimed her unlucky streak was over with Singham 2 but clearly it was just beginning for her co-star Ajay Devgn. We're still wondering why Action Jackson was ever put into action. Ajay Devgn seems determined to sell himself short and we can't quite figure out why the powerhouse performer behind Omkara and Gangaajal insists on sticking to the brainless boulevard, which leads to a one horse town called oblivion. After all, it is not like Ajay has to keep churning out one brainless entertainer after another to support his lavish lifestyle.

Sonakshi Sinha, on the other hand, has always been unapologetic about catering to the so called mass appeal. However, 'mass' can easily spell 'mess' and that's exactly what Sonakshi seems to have found herself in with Action Jackson, Lingaa and Tevar, all bombing at the box office.

So, perhaps, it's time for all these actors, none of whom are without their attributes, to set their professional radars straight and head away from what is a sure path to anonymity and not the variety which the stars so carefully pretend to cultivate.
