Katrina's role in Raajneeti 2 will be bigger and better

Katrina's role in Raajneeti 2 will be bigger and better
New Delhi: Vidya Balan started it all with 2011's The Dirty Picture and three women-centric films this year, Kareena's Heroine, Sridevi's English Vinglish, and Preity's Ishkq in Paris, are storming the last male bastion of Bollywood.

Cashing in on the trend is Katrina Kaif, not the actress you'd normally associate with the term "woman-centric film." Reports suggest that the Tigress has landed herself a meaty part in the sequel to Prakash Jha's 2010 hit film Raajneeti, in which she also had a prominent role.

The filmmaker was quoted saying: "It is very challenging to take the Raajneeti story forward. Most of the main characters are dead. Two-thirds of the characters will be completely new. Katrina (Kaif) will have a central role."

The casting of Katrina in the original gritty political drama was a surprise package in more ways than one, not least because the anglicised Kat managed to pull off quite lengthy Hindi dialogues and even scooped up a Best Actress award.

But there's bad news with the good. Don't expect to see a repeat of the Ranbir-Katrina chemistry because the Kapoor lad won't be a part of the second installment.

"And though Ranbir's character didn't die at the end of Raajneeti, he won't be a part of Rajneeti 2. Again, I will be doing a spin on the Mahabharat, though this time, it will be completely different," Mr Jha said.

If reports are to be believed then it was Ranbir himself who decided to back out of the project as he didn't want to play sidekick to rumoured ex-girlfriend Katrina.
