Amitabh Bachchan, host of Kaun Banega Crorepati 9, reintroduced Umesh Kumar Sahu, a social worker and wished him luck for the game ahead. He started with question #12 on Thursday. Umesh used 'Phone A Friend' lifeline, which did not help him. Umesh went ahead with his hunch and won the 12,50,000. Umesh was elated after he won the amount and said he wants to utilize it to rehabilitate the children, who stay with him. He quit the game unable to answer the 13th question. Gajendra Singh Rathi, a retired police officer, became the next contestant after winning the Fastest Finger First round. Mr Rathi was given a Rashtrapati Award for successfully capturing a notorious dacoit.
After a question on a Bollywood song, Amitabh Bachchan requested Gajendra Singh Rathi to sing a song which he has written. The former police officer obliged and sang a quasi-religious song. The audience and Mr Bachchan were impressed. Gajendra Singh Rathi used all four of his lifelines and won Rs 10,000.
The third contestant on Wednesday was Anuradha Aggarwal, who is a deputy collector. In her introductory video, the audience met her husband, who encouraged his wife to study and excel while he took the responsibility of the household work.
