Mumbai: Actor Kay Kay Menon, whose latest release, Rahasya, is reportedly based on the infamous Aarushi Talwar murder case, says movies do not need the push of a controversy to get an audience.
When asked if pre-release controversies help a film in any way, Kay Kay said, "I think that's a very wrong thought. I don't think a film needs controversy to get mileage. A film should run on its own merit."
"If your film is genuinely good, then it will be liked by the audience," he told IANS.
The Bombay High Court recently rejected a petition filed by dentist couple Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, who had sought a stop on the release of Rahasya, which is said to be based on the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.
Talking about the film, he said: "The Aarushi Talwar murder case was famous, so people are comparing it. It's a fictional story. This story has got nothing to do with Aarushi murder case."
Directed by Manish Gupta, Rahasya also features Tisca Chopra and Ashish Vidyarthi.
