Ranbir Kapoor may be more than a few films and several ads old but it greatly surprised him that children still associate him with his towel-dropping act from Saawariya.
The actor got a taste of this first-hand at a special school, where he had gone to research for Anurag Basu's upcoming movie Barfee. Ranbir plays a deaf-mute in the film.
A source said, "He has been visiting these schools to get an insight into his character as the shooting begins on March 20. During one such visit to a Goregaon school, he attended a class and even did a few exercises with the children. The little ones recognised him immediately and ran to him and started hugging him. He was overwhelmed by their gesture."
After classes, the director and the actor spent time with the children over lunch. The students were asked through sign language about Anurag Basu and they correctly replied that he was a director. When asked about Ranbir, they simply picked up towels and napkins.
The source added, "He found it quite cute, had a good laugh and clapped for them."
For his role in Barfee, Ranbir has even been taking sign language classes.
