Kim Kardashian had hoped her marriage would last "forever". The 31-year-old star, who filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Monday (31.10.11) after just 72 days of marriage, revealed things had "not worked out as planned" but claimed the pair would remain "friends".
In a statement, Kim said: "After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage, I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."
Documents filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court listed the date of the separation as Monday and has also requested "miscellaneous jewellery and other personal effects" as well as "earrings and accumulations" owned by Kim before, during and after the short marriage to be confirmed as separate property, E! News reports.
She has also requested each party pay their own court fees.
Kris is yet to comment on the break-up, but according to TMZ.com he is "bummed" about the decision as he believed they could work their problems out.
Kim and Kris - who married in a lavish star-studded ceremony in August - are believed to have been unable to come to an agreement on where they will live, with Kim wanting to stay in Los Angeles while keen to move to Minnesota.
Meanwhile, Kim's family are "sticking together" following the announcement of her split from Kris Humphries. Her sister Kourtney has revealed those closest to her are all rallying round to give her support.
She wrote on twitter: "Our sister is going through a difficult time but we're a close family and are sticking together like always. We appreciate everyone's kindness and support. Kim, we love you.(sic)"
Fellow sibling Khloe hit out at those who had been "hurtful" about the proceedings but said her family are "strong" enough to survive the ordeal. She said: "Reading some of these comments are so hurtful. Im grateful for our fans who understand and are being respectful. Hate is disgusting. Love is everything. Thank God for family. We are strong and we will only become closer! I love YOU(sic)"
