New Delhi:
Kim Kardashian's photoshoot for Interview magazine in which she channels Jackie Kennedy has ruffled several feathers online. Kim, 36, is made up to look like the former US First Lady with bouffant hair, elbow-length gloves, pearls and a shift dress and poses with her daughter North in the pictures. Not many seem to be impressed - the photos, posted on both Interview's Instagram and that of Kim Kardashian's, have been coldly received with reactions ranging from furious to perplexed. The consensus is that it is 'disrespectful' of a reality TV star, generally considered famous for being famous, to emulate the iconic Jackie Kennedy even if it's just dressing like her for a few pictures.
Here's a sample of what comments on the posts say: "Distasteful, insulting"; "Comparing K to Jackie K is either an insult or the ultimate proofing how far society/culture has downgraded"; "This is disgusting. Kim Kardashian owes the American people and apology. Jacqueline Kennedy is an icon and a role model. This is a new low for Kim"; "You know the end is near when Interview turns Kim Kardashian into Jackie Kennedy."
Comments also pointed out that Kim Kardashian is racially unlike Jackie Kennedy and alleged that it was akin to blackface. Some also questioned why North, who is Kim and Kanye West's four-year-old daughter, was so heavily made up.

Jackie Kennedy, who was married to US President John F Kennedy, still occupies a special place in the American consciousness. Jackie O, as she is also called, was First Lady from 1961 to 1963, when JFK was assassinated. She later married Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. Jackie Kennedy died in 1994.
Kim Kardashian presides over an empire that includes beauty products, a clothing line and a hugely lucrative reality TV series based on her family.
