Kiran Rao: Will portray women in strong roles
Kiran Rao is one director who believes in women power
Mumbai: Director Kiran Rao, who is all set to return to direction again, insists she will have challenging and interesting women characters in her film.

Kiran Rao made her directorial debut in 2011 with Dhobi Ghat and is quite excited about her next project.

"I have started writing, it is a long process... let's see how it shapes up," Kiran Rao said at an event last night.

At a time when filmmakers are looking to make women centric films, thanks to the success of The Dirty Picture and Kahaani, Kiran Rao wants strong women roles in her films than making a movie on them.

"I don't believe in women-centric films, but I certainly believe that we should create films where women have challenging roles. And I will definitely create that in my films. I would like to present women in all their diversity and colours in my films. I will have more interesting women characters in my films," Kiran Rao said.

Since the film is still being written, Kiran Rao says she can't say in which genre will it fit.

Kiran Rao was present at the felicitation function of women national award winners by WIFT (Women in Film and Television Association India). She is proud of all the women achievers but feels importance should be given to regionalcinema.

"As an audience we don't get to watch regional movies and I wish and hope we get to see it. We must go and see whichfilm is put in theatre, be it Telugu or Tamil or Bengali, etc. We must watch, we may not know the actors and the team, wemust go and see the film at least as one may like it," she said.

Also, since Mother's Day is around the corner (May 12), Kiran Rao, wife of actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan, is quite thrilledto be a mother herself.

"I am thrilled to be a mother and I am sure everyone who is a mother feels the same way. So I wish success in this veryexciting and complex journey of mothers," she said.
