The latest films of two prominent actors – Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar – began their box office journeys on a "disappointing" note on August 11. Neither of them has managed to win the hearts of cinephiles. Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor's Laal Singh Chaddha, which is a Hindi remake of Hollywood hit Forrest Gump, had a “dull start” and a “shockingly low” collection on its first day, reports film analyst Taran Adarsh. The Advait Chandan-directed film earned only Rs 12 crore in India. Sharing Laal Singh Chaddha's box office report on Koo, Taran Adarsh wrote: “Laal Singh Chaddha is shockingly low on Day 1... The dull start has added to the woes of an ailing industry... Better at premium multiplexes, but mass circuits are weak... Needs to score big numbers from Friday-Sunday to salvage the situation... Thursday Rs 12 crore. India business. *All* versions.”

Laal Singh Chaddha marks Aamir Khan's return to the big screen after four years. He co-stars with Kareena Kapoor in the film, which also has a cameo by South star Naga Chaitanya. As it is a Hindi remake of Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump, the plot is known – Laal Singh Chaddha travels through important events of Indian culture and history. The film also stars Mona Singh.
Meanwhile, the other film that released yesterday is Raksha Bandhan. It has been receiving negative reviews from critics and movie-goers. The movie could only collect Rs 8.20 crore on Day 1, reports Taran Adarsh.
As per the film analyst, the Aanand L Rai directorial couldn't perform well in metropolitan cities and it is expected to earn more over the weekend. Analysing the film's performance at the box office, Taran Adarsh wrote: “Raksha Bandhan has a disappointing start on Day 1... Mass circuits perform better [good occupancy in evening shows], but metros are extremely weak... Business needs to grow/jump from Friday-Sunday to improve its prospects... Thursday Rs 8.20 crore. India business.”
Raksha Bandhan is being criticized for showing marriage as the most important factor in the lives of women. The film also features Bhumi Pednekar as Akshay Kumar's love interest and Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth and Deepika Khanna as his sisters.
