Chennai:
Director Selva of Naan Avan Illai fame is in a state of shock! According to him, some of the scenes in the movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, directed by Maneesh Sharma, have been copied from his Tamil movies Naan Avan Illai 1&2.
"I was shocked to see that a few scenes in this Hindi movie, which has just hit screens, were actually similar to the ones in my movies," said the director.
Naan Avan Illai was first made in Tamil in 1974 featuring Gemini Ganesan in the lead, and directed by K Balachander. The story was about a young man who entices five girls and later cheats them. He keeps denying that he was the man they fell for. The film was remade by director Selva, in 2007 with Jeevan in the lead. The sequel was made in 2009.
"What I noticed was that a few scenes from both the films - for instance the scene in which Jeevan in Naan Avan Illai 1 impresses Sneha by gifting her a house and the scene in Naan Avan Illai 2 in which he charms Lakshmi Rai by claiming himself to be a businessman have been remade in exactly the same fashion in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl," he says.
"Neither producer Yash Chopra nor director Maneesh Sharma approached me before making their film," he added.
The director says that although he saw the trailer of Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl last month, he didn't want to comment anything before watching the film.
"Even now, I can't do much since my producer has to take some initiative in this case. However, I was shocked while watching the movie. Only he has to decide how to go about it. In fact, we had plans to make the movie in Hindi as well by selecting the best parts from both the versions. But I don't think it is possible now," says the director.
