Pop star Lady Gaga continued hercrusade for gay rights as she performed in front of thousandsat Rome's EuroPride rally.
The 25-year-old made a speech during the rally andperformed two songs on her piano, including Born This Waywhich Gaga says is a self-styled gay anthem, reportedContactmusic.
In her speech, she described homosexuals as'revolutionaries of love' and pointed out that discriminationagainst gay people results in thousands of young people acrossthe world being vulnerable to "suicide, self-loathing,isolation".
Gaga praised the 'great courage' of her audience, whohad paraded through the streets of Rome in brightly colouredfloats and costumes in order to support gay rights andhighlight injustices against the gay community.
She also hoped to send a message both to the Vatican,who boldly oppose same sex marriage and adoption, and also tooutspoken Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi, who recentlyclaimed that it is "better to be passionate about a beautifulgirl than a gay."
Gaga's recent album Born This Way recently sold morethan 1 million copies in a single week, and she continues touse her profile to try and change legislation, going as far asformally inviting the US Ambassador to the EuroPride rally.
