Lata Mangeshkar With Rajesh Khanna: Stars Share Throwback Memories

Lata Mangeshkar, the legend whose voice enthralled generations for decades, died on Sunday morning. The singer died in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital at the age of 92. The loss of the icon is being mourned by scores of fans and music lovers across the world. Members of the music industry and Bollywood, in particular, who have interacted and worked with Ms Mangeshkar over the years have expressed their grief and profound sense of loss across social media platforms. Lata Mangeshkar who made her singing debut in the 1940s has worked with several generations of artists. While mourning her loss, notable names also shared some classic throwback pictures to celebrate the rich life and legacy of the Bharat Ratna recipient.

Author and former actress, Twinkle Khanna shared a lovely image from her memory vault in which Lata Mangeshkar is seated with her father, superstar Rajesh Khanna and the prolific music director RD Burman. Sharing the priceless image in which the trio of legends is seen sharing a laugh, Twinkle Khanna said, “A formidable talent, Lata ji lives on through her music, her voice running through our hearts. #TheImmortals.”

Actor Dharmendra shared a throwback picture in which he is seen hugging a seated Ms Mangeshkar from behind as she smiles. In the caption, the veteran actor wrote, “Whole world is sad !!! Can't believe Lata ji has left us forever. We will miss you Lata ji. I pray your soul be in peace.”

Another throwback photo of Ms Mangeshkar with Dharmendra was shared by the actor's son, Sunny Deol. In the image, Sunny Deol is seen standing alongside his father and the late singer. In the caption, he wrote, “So sad to hear that Lataji is no more, going to miss her so much. End of an Era! Lataji will always be the nightingale of India, whose voice has made generations sing, dance and cry. Her songs will forever feed our emotions. Heartfelt condolences to Ashaji and the family and friends. The entire country will miss her. Om Shanti.”

Saba Pataudi, daughter of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and cricket icon Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi shared a black-and-white image of Ms Mangeshkar with Tiger Pataudi, as he was known. “Music of her soul…Immortal,” Saba wrote, assigning the photo credit to her followers

Madhuri Dixit too shared a throwback image that appears to have been clicked during an award ceremony. An excerpt from the actress' note attached to the photo says, “It was an honour to have interacted with you and be the recipient of your love and affection. You will never be forgotten.”

Singer Chinmayi Sripada, who worked with Lata Mangeshkar on AR Rahman's album for Rang De Basanti, shared a throwback photo with a little-known fact about the legend. She wrote, “That one time. Rang De Basanti. I don't think too many people know now that she loved photography. She's said to have had a pretty fantastic collection of professional cameras and on this particular day she was talking about a new camera purchase too.”

Producer Boney Kapoor also shared a picture with Ms Mangeshkar, in which they are accompanied by his late wife, superstar Sridevi. In the tweet, he said, “Deeply saddened by the news of  Lata Mangeshkar Ji's passing away. She leaves behind a huge legacy of songs which will be treasured for generations to come. May her soul rest in peace. Condolences to the family. “

Lata Mangeshkar was taken to the intensive care unit on January 8 after testing positive for COVID-19. Ms Mangeshkar was being treated for both pneumonia and COVID-19. The national flag will fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect for the legendary singer.
