Los Angeles: After Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson's life is getting a big screen treatment with Leonardo DiCaprio starring in the biopic on the 28th president.
The actor will also produce the adaptation of A Scott Berg's just-released biography Wilson with his Appian Way partner, Jennifer Davisson Killoran. Warner Bros is in early negotiations to pick up the book rights, said the Hollywood Reporter.
The book draws an intimate portrait of Wilson, who was elected president in 1912 and guided the nation through World War I. Berg's story emphasises on Wilson's progressive achievements while downplaying his weak record on civil liberties and civil rights for African Americans.
The other interesting moments that could be cinematically appealing including his romance with Edith Galt and their 1915 White House wedding after his first wife died in 1914, just one year into his term, the 1912 campaign and the decision to enter the war in 1917.
Wilson was a professor at Wesleyan University, the president of Princeton University and, from 1910-12, the governor of New Jersey. He's the only president with a Ph.D.
Berg wrote the biography after a 12-year research on the life and time of the president.
DiCaprio is not new to playing historical figures. He has previously starred as eccentric aviation pioneer Howard Hughes in Martin Scorsese The Aviator and Clint Eastwood's J Edgar which was on the life of former FBI director J Edgar Hoover.
