Los Angeles:
Lindsay Lohan, who recently hit headlines for allegedly stealing a necklaceworth USD 2,500 has said that she was too busy to return itback to the store.
The 'Mean Girls' star, who is currently on probationstemming from a drink driving conviction in 2007 has beenaccused of stealing the necklace from Californian boutique butclaimed she did not have time to return it, a websitereported.
"Ms Lohan was in possession of the necklace and wantedto give the necklace back to the store the day after she tookit from the store, but she was very busy," Lohan's assistantsaid.
But the 24-year-old star's lawyer Shawn Chapman Holleybelieves the charge is unfair as she disputed the estimatedvalue of the jewellery.
"We intend to challenge the prosecution's case becausethe truth is, Ms Lohan didn't steal anything. But even if shehad, it seems to me that the appropriate charge, based on thefair market value of the goods, should have been petty theftand not grand theft. A USD 5 lump of coal with a USD 2,500price tag is still a USD 5 lump of coal," said Holley.
The actress next court hearing is scheduled forFebruary 23.
