Mumbai:
January 29 2016 will see the release of Saala Khadoos across India and with less than a week to go, R Madhavan is all nerves.
"I am nervous because I am a first time producer. I am nervous because Rajkumar Hirani's name is attached to it and he hasn't interfered at all with the film. I am nervous because Ritika Singh is making her debut in Bollywood with this film. I am nervous because the film will release in two languages. I have a lot of reasons to be nervous about," said Madhavan in an interview to NDTV.
Even while we spoke to Madhavan, he was discussing with his production department, trying to figure out travel plans for the team for a Hyderabad visit. A first hand producer indeed.
"I gave three years of my life to this film. I wanted to make it as soon as possible and that's the reason why I chose to produce it myself. And while there were a lot of times when I thought that this film will not be made, I am proud of it today," added Madhavan.
Maddy (as he's popularly known) has been a part of some very important films in Indian cinema. Films that have almost always, had a very strong role for the female lead. And while most Bollywood heroes would have second thoughts about playing second fiddle to the leading lady, Madhavan said that he had been conditioned to do so. "I was born in a family of very strong women. I went to a school which was run by women. My mother was the chief manager of a bank for 30 years. So, I am conditioned to be like this. Every time I choose a film, I see that there is a strong part for the female protagonist to play. So, be it Tanu Weds Manu or Tanu Weds Manu Returns or Saala Khadoos, films and scripts which I choose and will produce, women will always be on top," added Madhavan.
And for that statement alone, we hope that Saala Khadoos is a success at the box office.
