National Award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, known for showcasing real life issues through his films, will be conferred the Padma Shri honour. The list of Padma awardees was announced on Monday. He said he accepts it with "all humility".
He tweeted:
Mr Bhandarkar is best known for his films like Chandni Bar, Page 3, Traffic Signal and Fashion.
However, Mr Bhandarkar's last release Calendar Girls failed to perform at the box office.
He tweeted:
