Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday condoled the death of renowned sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, who died in a US hospital.
Mr Sankaranarayanan said: "Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar was one of the greatest Indian musicians who popularised Indian classical music at the global level."
"The country has lost a great international musician who introduced the Indian classical music to the Western world," added Mr Chavan.
