Telugu film Dookudu is smashing industry records. Opening bigger than most Hindi films, Dookudu raked in over a million dollars in two days of its release in the US.

The Los Angeles Times says "Dookudu, the biggest hit you've never heard of. While Hindi-oriented Bollywood movies sometimes land on domestic box-office charts, reminding the American film industry of the shadow economy that is Indian cinema in the US, it's rarer for a Tollywood film to pull off the feat," it says.

The super show of this action entertainer brings a great breather to the Telugu film industry, reeling from a lean patch with no hits for a long time. Besides, Mahesh Babu, Telugu cinema's "Prince" is back in the saddle. The dashing actor was in fear of losing his "Prince" status with just one hit in the last five years.

An emotional Mahesh Babu tweeted: "Will always b indebted 2my super director seenu vytla for givin me d biggest hit in my career:)thankyou sir:)"

With no Telugu films releasing in the next two weeks, Dookudu has a clear shot at beating the record of highest collections, held by the 2009 action flick Magadheera, starring Ram Charan Teja and Kajal Agarwal. Magadheera had the biggest-ever release worldwide for a Telugu film.

So what makes Dookudu so special? "SuperStar's Action & Entertainment... WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?" screams a Facebook fan page. On Twitter fans call the movie "awesome" and "inspiring", while crediting "Prince" for his deft footwork and power-packed action.

Meanwhile, it's party time for the makers and cast of Dookudu. "Love u guys....now off2 party with my dookudu team....gonna b a long night:):)," tweeted Mahesh Babu. You bet.

Dookudu released worldwide on September 23.
